Race Up the Empire State Building
What was once the tallest building in the world is now host to the 33rd annual Empire State Building run-up, which takes place on February 2nd. Customers with cheap hotels in New York can apply to take part, or maybe just watch.
Each year, over one hundred competitors from all over the world race up the 1575 steps from the lobby to the Observatory deck on the 86th floor. That is, if they finish.
The fastest woman to reach the top was in 2007 with a time of 13 minutes and 12 seconds and the fastest man in as little as nine minutes and 33 seconds in 2003.
One of New York's biggest attractions, the Empire State Building is ranked as the 11th tallest skyscraper in the world.
Visitors to the city in February who are keen to take part should visit the New York Road Runners Club website for an application form.
