Sands Like Fun
Lots of people like building sandcastles, some like building big sandcastles and there are people who like building enormous sandcastle, but few can match the spectacular sculptures visible in late July on Imperial Beach in San Diego, California.
Taking place on July 28th and 29th, the US Open Sandcastle Competition takes place, with the first day given over to all kinds of seaside entertainment and a children's competition, before the maestros of the sand turn the grainy stuff into spectacular sculptures on the 29th in the competition proper.
Visitors in cheap hotels should be amazed at the shapes the skilled craftsmen can carve all that sand into, not to mention a little sad to see it all washed away when the tide comes in.
As well as the competition, Imperial Beach offers all the attractions of a seaside holiday in a location with a warm climate as well as all the attractions of San Diego.
Those heading over with children can add Legoland California to the sandcastles as a family attraction.
