Savannah Song

Those who love their southern music may find the spring a good time to visit the American state of Georgia as the Savannah Music Festival takes place.

Running from March 15th to April 1st, lovers of jazz, bluegrass, gospel and soul will be able to revel in the best of the deep south's rich musical heritage, with some classical added to the fascinating mix.

Featuring a wide range of well known artists, the performances around the town of Savannah are complimented by a series of lectures, workshops and masterclasses with the aim of "advancing the public's understanding and appreciation of music", according to the organisers.

Tickets vary from $50 (£25.46), to as low as $10, with some free performances.

Apart from the music, visitors staying in cheap hotels in and around Savannah have plenty else to see and do.

These include the Fort McAllister State Historic Park and the Pulaski National Monument, both important civil war sites.
