Sex and the City Appeal 'to Boost NY Tourism'
The release of the Sex and the City movie this year was a landmark event for fans of the TV show and it could prove to be just as important for the New York tourism industry, it has been claimed.
New York can almost be considered a fifth lead character in the movie, alongside the quartet of Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda.
Derek Moore, chairman of the Association of Independent Tour Operators, said that the power of the movie twinned with the strength of the pound against the US dollar could prove to be a powerful combination for New York tourism.
"The recent release of Sex and the City will remind people that New York is an ideal short break destination and will have a positive impact on the city's tourism industry," he said.
"The strength of the pound against the dollar offers tourists good value at the moment, adding an extra incentive to visit."
People staying in cheap hotels in New York have a pretty good chance of seeing something being filmed around the city, with official statistics showing that some 40,000 location shoots take place in the Big Apple every year.
