Smithsonian Folklife to Come Alive in Washington DC

Smithsonian Folklife to come alive in Washington DC For two weeks this summer, Washington DC will once again host the largest cultural event in the American capital: the Smithsonian Folklife Festival.

An annual event, the festival is this year celebrating more than four decades of showcasing some of the country's cultural diversity.

Starting at the end of June, the Smithsonian Folklife Festival will offer various programmes of music, crafts, dance, storytelling, art, debate and even cooking demonstrations to the expected one million visitors.

And attendants don't remain spectators either, as they are encouraged to take part in the events by singing and dancing along and enjoying some of the traditional cuisine.

Visitors to Washington DC might also want to extend their stay to ensure they have time to take in some of the city's most famous sights, including the White House, FBI headquarters and the Capitol.

The Smithsonian Folklife Festival takes place on the National Mall between June 27th and July 1st, restarting again on Independence Day, July 4th, and concluding on July 8th.

And while the National Mall is a popular national open space, the Code of Federal Regulations forbids camping onsite, so visitors are encouraged to book into cheap hotels in the city instead.
