Sofa, So Good
Travellers to Chicago may find that they don't have time to rest, if they're lucky enough to catch the city's Sofa festival.
Sculpture, Objects and Functional Art (Sofa) was created to create a firm link between decorative art and other genres, examining form and function in sculpture and furniture.
Taking place between November 10th and 12th 2006, Sofa could be an ideal opportunity for art lovers to stop at one of the city's cheap hotels and take in the sights.
During the event's conception in the 1970s, founder Mark Lyman planned to explore the blurring boundaries between purpose and art, as the concepts of substance and image fascinated him, Whatsonwhen reports.
However, there's more to the fair than furniture, as ceramics, glass works, tribal art and lighting designs are also part of the proceedings.
Regarded as America's leading art fair for the gallery market, in excess of 50 exhibitors from across the globe flock to display their talents at the event.
The Chicago Office of Tourism recently reported that the city's iconic Millennium Park has become the US' first cultural destination to offer free downloads of MP3 audio tours.
