Tennis Season Draws to a Close with US Open

Tennis season draws to a close with US Open Sports fans staying in cheap hotels in New York this summer will be able to enjoy the finale of the 2008 tennis season at the US Open.

The fourth and final event of the Grand Slam tennis tournaments will take place at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Centre at Flushing Meadows in Queens between August 25th and September 7th.

This competition has been won for the past four years by Roger Federer and the world number one will be in attendance again this year hoping to make it five wins in a row.

Federer has had the wind emphatically taken out of his sails this year, however, with the Wimbledon trophy that he has held since 2003 wrenched from his grasp by Rafael Nadal.

The dynamic Spaniard has never won the US Open and will be looking for his third major title of the year, having also won the French Open.

Venus Williams showed that American tennis is still in a strong position by winning Wimbledon this year and she and her sister Serena will have the home crowd behind them at Flushing Meadows.

With reigning US Open women's champion Justine Henin now retired, the field has been opened up for the likes of Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic to show what they can do.
