Thanks for the Parade!

Thanks for the Parade! America celebrates its annual Thanksgiving festival in November and people staying in cheap hotels in New York will also be feeling appreciative as they will have the chance to enjoy the city's famous Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Organised by department store Macy's, the parade runs from 09:00 until midday and is always a real spectacle for parents and children alike.

The parade is characterised by the weird and wonderful variety of figures that make their way through the streets of New York, from clowns and floats to marching bands and celebrities.

It is surely one of the only events in the world where giant inflatable versions of Big Bird, Garfield and Scooby Doo can be seen alongside floats in the shape of the Statue of Liberty and Santa's sleigh.

The parade sets off from 77th Street and Central Park West and makes its way along Broadway before finishing at 7th Avenue.

This year is a particularly special one for the Macy's Parade as it marks the event's 80th anniversary.
