The Calypso That Never Sleeps

The calypso that never sleeps The Big Apple becomes more like Barbados when the Brooklyn Carnival takes place on Labour Day in the New York borough in early September (date to be confirmed).

Featuring a feast of Caribbean culture, the event sees the West Indian community of New York putting on a grand show as music, colour and partying in the style those islands in the sun have made all their own rocks the city streets.

While Calypso fills the air and fabulously-dressed dancers strut their stuff, visitors staying in cheap hotels will be able to feast on the best of Caribbean cuisine.

All this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the fun that can be had in one of the most famous cities in the world.

Other attractions vary from taking a trip up the Empire State Building or Statue of Liberty to watching a Broadway Musical, while those who fancy a bit of retail therapy can find it in famous department stores like Macy's.

Those needing a breather can find a bit of peace in the famous green oasis that is Central Park.
