Time to Walk the Plank Me Hearties
Due to its reputation as something of a pirate hotspot in times gone by, Key West holds an annual festival to celebrate all things piratical.
There will be plenty of yo-ho-hoing and walking the plank at the Pirates in Paradise Festival as residents of the Florida Keys turn the region's suspicious history into a cause for a party.
Among the highlights of the event, which runs from November 29th to December 2nd, will be a Caribbean pirate's buffet and hurricane relief fundraiser, a national walk the plank championship and an official 'end of America's hurricane season' party at the Pier House.
There will be a number of re-enactments of maritime legend, daily pirate sails and tall ship sea battles, diving excursions to shipwrecks and glass-bottom boat trips.
People staying in cheap hotels in Florida who would be interested in some slightly more sedate entertainment can attend lectures and writers' seminars or visit museums.
However visitors choose to entertain themselves they are sure to have a trip to treasure.
