USA Creates a Diamond Geezer
A Chicago company has announced that it wants to create a Beethoven piece that lasts forever a diamond made out of strands of the composer's hair.
LifeGem Memorials was founded in 2002 and makes diamonds out of the carbon from cremated human remains and now believes it can make the precious stones out of human hair, reports Reuters.
The company has now teamed with John Reznikoff, who has made it into the Guinness Book of records for having the largest and most valuable collection of celebrity hair.
Mr Reznikoff is reportedly giving LifeGem ten strands of Beethoven's hair, which will be used it in a process to create three diamonds of between 0.5 and one carat in weight.
Chief executive of LifeGem, Greg Herro, told Reuters that the diamonds would initially be put on a world tour of museums and opera houses for about six months, with the diamonds eventually being auctioned.
"We thought, well, what better way to do it than with an international icon who is known to millions," Mr Herro said.
Mr Reznikoff has approximately 115 hair samples in his collection, including the locks of Marilyn Monroe, Charles Dickens and Abraham Lincoln.
