Wood of the dog As spring hits the northern hemisphere, fairs, festivals and carnivals are in abundance, with the city of Atlanta, Georgia offering a free party on April 13th, 14th and 15th.

The Dogwood Festival, named after the tree, takes place in Piedmont Park, featuring a vast range of entertainment, including music, food, art, a craft market and a special contest to see which dog is best at catching Frisbees.

Most of the money raised from the various stalls goes to charity.

Apart from the days of fun in the park, the city of Atlanta offers a wide range of attractions.

History buffs can enjoy the civil war displays at the Atlanta History Centre and pay homage to Sweet Auburn, the home of the 1960's civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jnr.

Visitors staying in cheap hotels in the city can also enjoy Atlanta's most famous product, Coca-Cola, at the World of Coca-Cola, where it is possible to find out all about the beverage, except of course for its secret ingredient.
