You Boat-er Believe It
Fans of all things boat-related, and there are a lot of them out there, will be in their element in New York as 2008 commences and the National Boat Show opens its doors.
This event will be held at the Jacob Javits Convention Centre between December 29th and January 6th.
Among the features of the event is the powerboat docking challenge, where participants will have to race against each other to accurately position a miniature powerboat, with the grand prize an Adirondack guide boat worth $2,500 (£1,200).
There will also be live freshwater fishing in an impressive 4,000-gallon tank, where professional anglers will teach onlookers the tricks behind casting and the various other techniques required to land a whopper.
Fishing is one of those pastimes generally of interest to the older gentleman, so to keep the kids entertained there is also an area housing palm trees that children can climb to their heart's content.
Holidaymakers staying in cheap hotels in New York can find the convention centre at 625 West 34th Street.
